Agricultural cooperatives in Romania in 2024: progress and prospects

This resource is made up of two publications:

• a research report that analyses official data on agricultural cooperatives in Romania;
• an opinion survey of agricultural cooperatives set up after 2020.

The reports show that agricultural cooperatives have become more attractive, influenced by the consolidation of farms, legislative changes and tax facilities after 2018, European funds, the pandemic and the geopolitical context. Even so, many cooperatives remain only “on paper” and are financially fragile. They need public policies for financial sustainability, more members, vertical integration and a wider set of functions.
