The agricultural advisory system in Romania

Asociația Centrul Român de Politici Europene Partener consorțiu CoopNet

The report sets out the weaknesses of the state agricultural advisory system in Romania and underlines the need for reform and for substantial investment if the services offered to farmers are to improve, especially for small and medium-sized commercial farms. Those farms need relevant, accessible information if they are to stay in the market and grow, and access to information, training and advice offered only by the private system is limited. Farmers often rely on information that has not been checked scientifically, picked up informally from neighbours or from non-specialist sources.

Improving agricultural advice in Romania is a key element for the successful implementation of the National Strategic Plan 2023–2027, and the report’s recommendations should guide reform and investment in this field.

These materials were prepared under the project “Planning and exploration of farmers’ access to private agricultural advisory services”, funded by a grant from the Romanian-American Foundation and coordinated by the Civitas Foundation for Civil Society Cluj.

Materials developed in 2023.
